So guessing one cannot lease a prius prime by making the purchase in CA yet not living in that State cause otherwise this seems like a slam dunk deal if one could ever locate the new Prime there. Seems not many will come to the USA…I am guessing anytime soon. Would be fun to fly out, maybe not as much to drive one back. Lease price for a prime in FL requires something like 3k down vs $300. Got to love how FL does not get any love if you try to lease down here. Have a Sister in CA…hum, maybe she could lean me the prime if she got it lol. Honestly, do need to get over that way to see Family within say a year and a lease deal like that seems sweet. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1139670_toyota-prius-prime-lease-undercuts-that-of-cheaper-prius-hybrid
The lack of love in Florida is because of the independent distributor for the US South when it comes to plug ins in general. This case of a lack of love is because of greed in the lease company. The requirements for the current plug in federal tax credit exclude it from being used by consumers buying a Prius Prime. The section for commercial vehicles doesn't have such requirements, and a lease company buying a personal car to lease out counts as a commercial sale. A lease company can pass on the value of the $7500 federal credit to a leasee of a PP in any state, not just California. Though there could be California specific incentives involved in that deal, which may not apply to a car registered out of state. IIRC, California is one of the few states where you have to pay their sales tax on a car being registered in another state. You can buy in California, but pay Ca and Fl sales tax on it. Several buyers of the gen4 Prime in the South bought in the Northeast to avoid their local distributor and for the better deals.
Wow, double tax (CA and FL) so much for that 'deal' for out of towners Do have family up in Indiana area wonder if the Toyota region in that area would have any Lease deals. Well, seems Indiana is offering the same thing as CA. Any laws disallowing doing a lease in IN instead of one in FL?
People regularly buy a car out of state. Not sure why it would be an issue for a lease. Wouldn't you have to go back at the end of the lease though?
Fair point, do have family up in Indiana though so a mini-vacation and fly back if needed. Don’t know what buy out would be thinking, on a lease, that figure might be given when lease is created. Just kick some ideas around…
Well, maybe in six months toyota will have enough inventory in stock for all of us to kick the tires regardless of State we live in. Enjoy them if you got them or getting them soon
