Please tell me I don't have to remove the headlight assembly to change a bulb. I not sure if it is the left side T/S bulb to the clearance light bulb. It's the second one down from the top and it is amber. I removed a metal bracket that was in the way but I can't see a way to get to the bulb. 2007 Prius

You don’t have to remove it but you’ll need to know exactly how to unlock the bulb from the headlight housing. Also you’ll need small hands.

If you remove the headlights, it’ll be much easier. And you can do both sides at once. You’ll need to detach the front bumper a bit just so you can remove the headlights mounting bolts. You don’t have to remove the entire bumper cover

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the reply. That's crazy. To have to take the wheel well liner and bumper cover off just to change a bulb. Even though I don't want to, I am glad I can do it myself. Otherwise it would be $100+ just to change a bulb. I love my Prius but this is a test.

Just now I'm not sure whether I've changed a clearance or turn signal bulb in a Gen 2, but I would be very surprised if you needed to do anything with the wheel well liner or the bumper cover, or even the bracket you already moved. In my Gen 1 and Gen 3, those little bulbs are pretty much just reach in and grab, as long as you're pretty sure of where you're reaching and your hand will fit.

I'll admit the right headlight on my Gen 3 is sure easier if the air snorkel is moved first.

No man you don't have to remove anything Open the hood and look again The one that's closest to the top and to the metal is the 194 marker lamp bulb It does nothing but light up the car The next one down is the turn signal It is a 7440 I believe I have the mirrored amber Sylvania bulbs there because you can see them through the clear lens I like the way the mirrored Amber bulb looks from that company and you just twist pull back and you're looking at the amber bulb withdraw it straight out of the socket pop the new one in because it's an incandescent regular bulb you don't have to pay any attention to which way the bulb is flipped or anything Stick it in the socket stick the socket back into the headlight assembly I think it's righty tighty it clicks and you're done You can even convert the headlights to LED h4s without removing the headlight assembly what you will not do is put the rubber grommets back on over the LED headlight bulb assembly without modification Good luck

If you are changing just the turn signal bulb, you should be fine doing it without taking the headlight assembly out. I would think if you go to a parts store, you buy the bulb, the people working there will be able to do that for free

Changing headlights are a different story, but turn signal bulbs should be accessible without removing bumper cover

I definitely changed a Gen 2 left headlight bulb recently, without doing anything besides reaching under hood, grabbing the socket base, and doing the proper twisty clippy things.

But the reason I had to change it was that clearly the last person to change it hadn't managed to put it in straight. So it's apparently not easy for everybody.

Can't tell you if it's harder on the right side.

You just have to remove the little air intake deflector lift up the little clip set it in the wiper well while you reach around and change your halogen bulb You can even put in the insert and put the LEDs in and then push them in and index them at three and nine and leave the rubber cover off or you can trim it and make it fit if you like.

This car is new to me so I think I will change all the front bulbs at one time. I am unable to fit my hand in to change the left TS bulb. Eventually the previous owner had the same problem because the lower bulb was not clipped in at all. This all started because I noticed condensation in the headlight assembly. Actually I was glad to find the lose bulb. It sure beats changing the headlight assembly $$. I'm told I will not have to completely remove the bumper cover to access the headlight assembly retaining bolts.

The owners' manual sure doesn't show any fussing around with bumper covers or headlight assembly removal to swap turn signals:

Are you sure you don't know anybody with smaller hands?

Some people with big hands will have a problem You can reach in there with your angled long or short needle nose pliers and gently undo and pull out the holder for the marker or the turn signal pretty easily.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I am a bit confused or perhaps I am confusing you all. The TS bulb is the top bulb, right? I can reach that bulb. It's the one below it that I have found very difficult to reach. I am ready not that upset with having to do what ever it takes to change that bulb because I am going to change all the bulbs on both sides. My car has HID head lights. I don't want to retrofit them with LEDs. Any suggestion or experience with which HID bulbs are best? There is wide variety (lumens and color) for sale and they vary a lot in price. One last question are both the running lights and TS (top and bottom) bulbs amber?
