I would like a portable solution to accurately meter my public Level 2 charging. I am imagining an inline meter device that has both male and female J1772 connectors with Real-time Voltage/Current/Power measurement and then cumulative Energy (until reset). I'd like it to be future-proof, so that it can work with future BEV Level 2 charging. Does such a thing exist? Where can I buy it?
Don't public Level 2 charging give you the amount of kWh of electrons transferred to the car? Fancier L2 EVSE at home with wifi connection gives that number. Of course at home, some people installed a kWh meter on the wall to record it. A portable device you described would be nice, but I have never seen or heard of it.
Single Phase, Pass-Through kWh Meter, 2 or 3-Wire, 120V–120/240V, 100A | EKM Metering Inc. This would be installed in your 240 volt line before the EVSE, but would give you the data in your home. On the road will be another kettle of fish.
