What's going to happen if/when China slams the door on non-plugins's though.

The overall Australian market dropped considerably in 2019. But LEXUS had one of the few improvements in sales here too - of the Prestige Brands - apart from VOLVO (and Lambo, Rolls Royce etc):

    Mercedes-Benz 38,604......-2.4%
    BMW 23,307......................+1.1%
    Audi 15,708........................-19.1%
    Lexus 9,612........................+9.0%
    Volvo Car 7,779..................+16.2%
    Porsche 4,161.....................+6.4%
    Jaguar 2,274........................-15.1%
    Alfa Romeo 891....................-30.3%
    Infiniti 571.............................-12.0%
    Ferrari 257............................+6.6%
    Bentley 191...........................-8.2%
    Lamborghini..........................+147 9.7%
    Aston Martin 129...................-22.8%
Genesis 103..........................+442.1% (new to the market)
    McLaren................................+88 0.0%

They originally did. Then peeled back and allowed hybrids as part of the cleaner air initiative.
