So the owners manual calls for a type W5W bulb in the license plate. None of the auto parts stores listed that part number, so I did some research to find that W5W is also known as part #168. List of automotive light bulb types - Wikipedia Auto parts stores also listed 2825, which is apparently an LED bulb. Being only $3 more, I'm tempted to go with LED, but for a license plate, it doesn't really matter to me, as long as it lasts a long time. Couldn't find an instructional video on youtube, but the owners manual seems to explain it fairly well. What type did you use? For the record, I'm at 106K miles, and just noticed one of the bulbs being out. Every other bulb on my car is still working great.
You can still go with a 168/194 wedge LED bulb replacement if you want an LED bulb. That's what I'm using in my Gen 3 (and Gen 2) 194 LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Tower - Miniature Wedge Retrofit | Miniature Wedge Base LEDs | LED Car Light Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs
Not sure if it's the same as regular 3rd gen Prius but if it is, Toyota part number is: 00234-00192 Those are $2.40 apiece (CDN) at my dealership.
