Location of 12V battery in Prius I?

    Can someone please tell me where to find the 12V battery in my 2001 Prius, and how to get to it? If it's under the hood it's well hidden...

    You must have just purchased it? (used) The 12V Bat is located on either the left side, in the trunk, under the carpet, by taking out a little horizontal flap (earlier Priuses) On my 2005 its the same place, but on right side.

    I'm actually an 'early adopter' (got mine in March 2001), but I've been content to let Toyota do the service until now (except for all the *&%^ tires). The owner's manual has a little drawing of the battery & its cables, but nothing about the location...

    I do recall seeing the flap in the carpet, though, and that was my 2nd guess (1st was under the back seat - I once had a VW Beetle). Thanks heaps!
