Last night, I went to fetch my mail. I left the 2024 Prius Prime running while I went to the mailbox. When I got back to the car, the driver's door was locked, and I couldn't unlock it. Neither the key fob switch, nor the door handle would unlock it. I had to enter the passenger door, and reach over to open the driver's door from the inside. Does this sound normal?
Nope. No suggestions either. (I’m the least qualified person on this forum, but maybe you’ll get a bump and someone will chime in.)
@Paul Gregory: Yikes! That is weird. I've tried various ways to see if I could accidentally lock myself out without success. Since I don't have the second keyfob yet I also have my phone set up to open the car and tried locking the phone in the car unsuccessfully. Besides the phone unlocking, I wonder if your case is one where they mechanical key in the keyfob might have been a good override? will
Was the passenger door unlocked and just the drivers? That would suggest there is an issue that the dealer needs to look at. Or perhaps the physical lock was hit when you got out. This should be something that is easy to repeat if an actual issue.
So far, it seems to happen when the car is running. Each time, it locks the drivers door, and neither the key fob or the door handle will unlock it. Each time, the passenger door is unlocked. I seem to recall hearing nine beeps after I close the door with the car running. I've discussed it with the dealer, and they will look at it this week.
I'm sure the key will unlock the door, but that's not a solution. I want to be able to get out and check my mail with the car running without being locked out.
