As an unabashed, unapologetic fan of Lonnie Thompson, I link to a recent story on him in NYT http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/03/science/earth/lonnie-thompson-climate-scientist-battles-time.html?_r=2&hp&pagewanted=all Yeah it's over dramatized, but this is a newspaper. Frankly I was not aware of his current health condition. His frozen ice cores at OSU may well outlast him, and lead to a type of immortality. I have no doubt that new techniques will be developed to extract additional information from the record. Less dramatic, a link to his CV. The 'meat' (scientific publications) begins on page 10: http://bprc.osu.edu/Icecore/vitae/lgt_cv.pdf
Thanks! I have been somewhat amused at how many of us geriatrics are still tottering about and at what to us seems the leading edge. I somehow suspect we may just not know the names of the youngsters who are picking up the mantle . . . any alternative would be too horrible to contemplate. Bob Wilson
