I was low on gas late at night and used GPS to find a Chevron. I pulled up and removed the gas cap and then saw "Pump stopped, please wait" on the screen and nobody was at the cashier's booth. The booth was closed on all sides with blinds. A closed Chevron with lights on. With a slightly disoriented distraction I loosely replaced the gas cap, not realizing it. The Check Engine light came on. Oh no! Twenty five miles from home after midnight, and what does this mean? I pulled over and searched on Google which brought me to threads in Prius Chat. Loose gas cap. When I got to another station I checked and indeed it was loose. This gas station charged almost a dollar fifty more per gallon, which also surprised me. Just two gallons did the trick. Then O also read that I have to wait for the Check engine light to turn off. And in three days it did. It was invaluable to me in learning about it. $1.50 MORE? how much is gas there? gas in florida is under 2 bucks..no wonder I cant sell my prius here..
Glad to hear that your story had a happy ending! Up here in Canada I always buy Chevron gas, but it's never priced more than a few cents per litre different than the competition. It was a pretty big surprise to me when I was in California this fall and Chevron prices were way, way higher than other brands.
