Car: 2008 Prius NHW20 Problem: Only had one key, and now it’s been stolen. I have a 2008 Prius which is used as a taxi. Someone has stolen the only key that I have for it. I need to get the car running as soon as possible. I have two other identical Priuses that I can temporarily remove parts from to get the taxi going. I have been told to transfer the ECU and key from one of the other cars. All keys are black (ie no silver logos). Is that it? Anything else to transfer? Any tips on where the ECU is, and how to remove it? Note: I do have a Mini-VCI cable but haven't used it or Techstream yet. Thank you.
I think you need to change all the computers as they are programmed to the ECU...Im pretty sure the BCM (body control module) and anything else linked to the security system has to be swapped...might be smarter just to pay the dealer the $300 - $400 to get a new key made.. looks like you have to find and change all these parts 04-09 Prius Hybrid Smart Key Ignition System Set HV ECU Module immobilizer FOB | eBay
You will, of course need to get replacement fobs. Checking a different thread on PriusChat says.... "There is no need to swap any hardware if you have Techstream and a valid passcode. " You will need to use the key programming function of Techstream. It will generate a 96 digit hex code. Using this hex code, you then have to pay a service to generate a passcode (reseed code) for you. These services are readily available to locksmiths with security credentials. For the average Joe, usually you end up turning to online services outside the US.
will the purchased pass code work with the "amazon/ebay" techstream or does it only work with the real and registered software? and where do you get this code? I also need to reprogram my master fob to get the SKS to function again
