I have a chance to pick up an 05 Honda S2000 with only 6K miles. Car is like it came from the showroom - completely original. The original owner has stored it every winter and it's never seen rain. This would be a 3rd vehicle for summer fun - something small with a manual tranny for weekend cruises. Considered Vette and Miata, but already had those cars. Thoughts?
I drove my sons S2000 for a week while he borrowed my truck to move. They are absolutely great cars and I say that as the owner of a 550hp+ Corvette. If you might ever want to take it for more than a weekend cruise, take a serious look at the lack of luggage space, other than that they are great.
The S2000 is one of the best sports coupe's ever made. When you get the VTEC to kick in it is exhilarating. Buy it, you won't regret it.
Thanks for the feedback. Most 2004+ units in good condition and under 50K miles are in the upper teens and low 20s. When I look on a 500 radius in Autotrader of units under 15K miles, this guy's price of mid-20s is comparable. It seems the biggest problems with these cars are POs - previous owners. One car I drove last night had an overly-dark tint, badly stone-chipped front bumper cover, and a rear bumper cover that looks like it had been tweaked. Another unit had a big honkin' wing. This car is completely unmolested. This guy had a complete detailed Kubota tractor sitting beside the car in his man-cave garage. I think I'm going to have him get it off the dollies, put the battery back in, and get it ready for a test drive. If it drives as good as it looks, I'm going to bring it home.
Took the 05 for a test drive tonight and it is just what I'm looking for. With only 6100 miles, it looks, drives, and smells new. We inked a sales agreement and will finish the transaction in about two weeks when he returns from a trip. Obligatory pics...
The S2000 is home and tucked into the back of the garage so I can get the tractor out. Too bad the line at SOS was over 100 people long so I'll try again tomorrow for title & plates.
