I have an odd issue that just started. My 2010 Prius has about 215,000 miles on it, but the engine was changed at some time in its history before i owned it. When i let off the accelerator while going 40+ mph the orange triangle will pop up with the "Low Engine Oil Pressure" warning. My first thought was to check the oil, but it is full, and my engine does not consume oil between changes for the time being..... It also does not make any noises such as knocking or rattles when this happens and as soon as i press on the accelerator the light goes off. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I am going to do an oil and filter change and swap the oil pressure sending unit, but if this does not resolve the problem, i believe that i will have to look deeper to something such as the oil pickup or oil pump.
I had a similar issue in my old Toyota truck, oil lamp would flash on and off while idling. Turned out to be bad oil, drained out extremely thin. It was supposed to be 10/30 wt. Did an oil change with Castrol 10/30, didn't have any other issues since. We use 0/20 wt. on these cars, so I don't know how we can tell if the oil is bad. unless your using some noname brand if oil. Hope this helps......
