A couple months ago I was constantly getting "put vehicle on a flat surface and put in park" error message, along with red triangle warning light, hybrid warning light, hybrid battery light, check engine, and brake system warning light. Acceleration was pretty much nonexistent. Running it in diagnostic mode showed a charge of 11 and some volts. Diagnostic codes p0300 p0301 p0302 and hybrid code for battery (dont remember what code was) all came up. Got a new battery, took for test drive, all lights were gone and acceleration was back to normal. Next day error message about flat surface was back along with all the same dash lights minus battery light. Acceleration had also returned to being crappy. Changed out spark plugs and ignition coils, and topped off oil. Now acceleration is mildly better but not great. Just did another diagnostic mode check and battery when off is at 11.4, when turned on it is at 13.9. Also engine coolant fan is blowing really loud. Not sure if misfires still happening, I will need to have my friend with the tool check it next few days. Any advice is much appreciated.
Because of the charge level? I just want to understand so I know what I'm talking about when I call the battery place, it's still under their warranty.
No, more the symptoms you mentioned in your other thread. Unfortunately, (with the info here and in your other thread) the engine misfire codes will be due to bottom end damage caused by running the oil low.
I didn't see where you mentioned the charge of the hybrid battery. You mentioned the voltage for the 12V battery, which sounds too low at 11.4 volts. That should be over 12.0. Presumably the fan you're hearing is the hybrid battery cooling fan, not the engine fan. That alone points to a failing hybrid battery.
perhaps the new 12v wasn't properly charged when installed, and gave it up after a day. it should be fully charged up, around 13 volts, then see how it does.
Should have said the battery that was replaced was a refurbished hybrid battery and they are coming out tomorrow morning. Thanks
I also meant to mention that your 12 V battery, with a voltage under 12 V, is flat. A fully charged AGM in good condition should be 12.9-13.2 V. While waiting for your HV battery service, you should put the 12 V on charge, using a modern automatic battery charger that has an AGM setting, for at least 12-16 hours, or until the charger says that charging is complete. Then test the voltage again after the charger has been removed for 2 hours or more. If the charge is less than 12.4 V your battery is not in great shape. If the voltage is ~12.7 it is reasonably ok. If it is less than 12.1 V, you should replace the 12 V battery.
Inquiring minds want to know. What was the problem and the solution? I'm always interested in learning.
