So my prius 2012 popped a message that said low battery traction. ..But i drove the car around...got the battery charged and it seems to be working for the moment. But i know it probably does not have long...So i have been scouring these forums and the internet for suggestions. Should I get new cells, a new batter? or a used one? Im confused as to what my options actually are and how to go about them. Can you help?
If your problem is really the traction battery you only have a few good reliable options. If you need somebody to do the work and there are no Hybrid specialists close by you only good choice is a dealer installed new Toyota battery with a 3 year warranty. If you are DIY and a dealer with sell you a pack it only has a 2 year warranty. A less expensive DIY option is the kit of new cells for $1600 delivered. See my signature. So called reconditioned batteries are usually poorly repaired used packs repaired with other used modules. New modules are not available. A few people have been able to find a battery from a low mileage Prius in the junkyard.
