    Hi All -

I did a search on this subject, and nothing applicable came up. So, here's the situation: The lower body side cladding (some might call it molding--whatever, that piece that's below the doors and runs between the front and rear wheel wells) is in the process of dislodging itself from the rest of the car. It looks as simple as the screws on the rear mount have just come off.

    I have two questions:

    (1) Has anyone else experienced this?

    (2) If so, do you know the part number for the screws, or is any other remedy available that is less inconvenient than going to the dealer and spending hours while they verify the situation, grill me as to whether I've been racing off road or doing other things that make it my fault, etc., order the part from East Jesus and require me to come back next week?

The car is still under warranty, but it looks like it might be such a minor thing that it would be easier and more cost/time effective to just do it myself, so I thought I'd ask you all first.

btw, it is on both sides of the car.

    Thanks much,

    ~T

Both sides??? Something is definitely not right. Bring it to the dealer and have them fix it. That's what warranties are for.

There's a number of clips holding the rocker panels on in addition to the screws, and the manual says the clips are non-reuseable. Let the dealer deal with it.

I agree with the above use the warranty. I did have a similar problem. The front spoiler is held on by 6 bolts and when I looked under my car for the first time (1500 miles) I noticed 5 were missing and the last one was finger tight. So stuff sometimes gets overlooked on the assembly line, unfortunately.

Thanks, guys. Now I even know the name--"rocker panel assembly" which should shave a half hour off the process. I'll ask them to check all the bolts all around, given Tom's experience.
    Cheers

btw I took a look at my parents' gen II and it seems much more solid and well screwed together. Seems like theyre cutting corners.

    timo27,

FWIW, of the three dealerships I have visited around Ballamer,
I've had the best service experience at Bill Kidds in Timonium.
    You might try them.

That said, I haven't had any real problems to date, just routine
servicing. They don't fight you on the little things; no problem
with 42/40 tire pressure, 3.5 qt of oil, etc.
