Hi Haven't really seen this addressed, so if it has been, I apologize. I am buying my Prius out of town (about 400 miles away) because their waiting list is about 2 months versus my local dealer's 8 months list. I know that generally you go to the dealer that you buy from for service on the car, but since this dealer is so far away, that is not an option. And I am pretty sure my independent mechanic will not have the know how to service the Prius. So.... Since most of the service for the first 5 years is under warranty, can you take the Prius to any dealer for service, and will they perform all the required maintenance without problem, or will you be stuck paying for the service since it was not with the original selling dealer? Thanks for all the info!!
It is no problem taking your Prius to a dealer you did not buy it from. I took mine in to a local dealer twice now with no problems. The first was for the 40D update and this week for the 5,000 service. It seems that service and sales at dealerships have virtually nothing to do with each other. The service writers don't seem to care where you got the car from as long as you bring it to them for service. Jeff
Routine maintenance was only free on the Classic (2001-2003). You'll be paying for your oil changes and such every 5,000 miles. Free work on the car is only if you have a warranty repair. I'm doing my own oil changes and I paid a nominal service fee to Discount Tire for lifetime rotation/balance. WAY cheaper than dealer prices......
