Hey everyone, sorry if this question has already been asked, but... My 2009 Prius has about 5100 miles on it. At about 3800 miles I changed the oil. Now the "maintenence required" light is on. I checked the oil and it is right at the "full" line (well, actually the full dot) and the oil is not too dark. It's a nice golden color. Anyway, I was wondering... why is the light still on???? Thanks in advance!
When you changed your oil, if the system wasn't reset at the same time, the car does not know that your oil was in fact changed. So now it is telling you that this is when you should be doing the change... Just follow the manual on how to reset it and it'll go away. Sorry, I sold my 06' and forgot the procedure already... Ah heck, I had to look it up each time anyway, who am I kidding?! lol
To add a bit to Mark's response: The light is on a "timer" of sorts, based on mileage since the last reset. At 4500 miles since the last reset it starts flashing for a short time on startup. At 5000 miles it stays on. To reset: Confirm that your odometer is set to the regular odometer, not Trip A or Trip B. Start with the car off. Press and hold the ODO button until steps 4 and 5 are complete. Press the Power button twice with your foot off the brake -- i.e., turn it to Ignition On. Watch the odometer display. Instead of the actual odometer reading you'll see a series of flashing dashes that progressively disappear until the odometer reading appears, about 5 seconds. Release the ODO button.
