A Moon Township man is accused of filling his father’s Hummer with stolen gasoline Wednesday and fleeing police before crashing into a tree. Franklin Park police on routine patrol saw Mark Follen Jr., 18, at 1:16 a.m. near the fuel tanks at Clover Hill Golf Course, 2200 Reis Road, police Chief Donald Dorsch said. Follen apparently spotted the police cruiser and sped away in the Hummer, Dorsch said. Driving as fast as 80 mph, he led police onto Ingomar Road, through McCandless Township and onto McKnight Road. Police from three other departments — McCandless and Ross townships, and Allegheny County — joined the chase. Follen attempted to turn into a parking lot at Northway Mall in McCandless around 1:30 a.m., but his vehicle struck a tree, Dorsch said. The impact caused the Hummer to overturn several times. Follen, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for a leg injury, Dorsch said. Follen was not at the hospital Wednesday afternoon, hospital officials said. I looked up Hummer H2's top speed and it is limited at 99 MPH. Prius is limited to 105 MPH but there are some reported on here that they got up to 109 MPH downhill. Next time when someone ask you how fast can the Prius go, tell them "faster than Hummer H2".
LOL. Maybe Dad should thank son for totaling the H2. He'll probably collect more on the insurance than if he tried to sell it.
It's funny you say that... my wife and I were speculating on whether there will be an increase in insurance fraud due to people aiming to total out their trucks/suv's/guzzlers, rather than taking the hit on their trade-in.
Hi All, Lets see. Father buys H2 with the thought that this would be a safe vehicle for his family. But the cost of fuel crimps the teenager's style, and he can't be with his homey's. So, he goes out and steals some fuel, and ends up in the hospital after a police chase. Does not seem like the H2 is that safe for a family afterall.
Silly donee, nobody buys a H2 because "it's a safe vehicle." They don't call it "The Compensator" for nothing.
Hi SteveO, I know, but that is not how they delude themselves to buy those things. They justify it, because they think its safe. Let alone the Rappailesque subconcious motivations.
I hope part of the punishment for the kid is also that he must reimberse the police for the gas they used chasing him
The only people who should own Hummers are gas station owners and oil company executives. The owner of my corner gas station nearby has one. He needs his own gas pump for it. LOL. I don't know if the insurance company will pay in such a situation.
Looks like he wasn't wearing his seat belt either. I wonder if he was on his cell phone during the chase, giving his homies a play by play.
Insurance companies do not cover accident damages sustained during a criminal endeavor. The bank will be calling soon about payment. The only way to cover it is if the owner declares it was stolen by the son and offers charges for the felonies. the son is toast anyway.
If I was Dad, that's exactly what I'd do. It will be worse if son isn't listed on insurance as having permission to drive the Hummer. Which could be possible. Son stole gas to cover up fact he was driving without permission. How many people know *exactly* what mileage is on their car every minute? I only know my mileage when I bring it in for servicing. In between, I have no clue.
Another advantage of Prius, if son steals and thrashes car you can see instantly the fuel consumption will be bad.
So I can borrow your baby as long as I put gas in it? cool! thanks! umm, I need a key tho............:faint:
