I don’t know the proper term for the “upper display” so couldn’t find an existing thread, but hoping someone will know what I mean: When I pull up the menu on the 11” display (the pop-up version of the menu, with three of the circles visible just above the climate and audio controls) three miniature versions of the circles also appear on the upper display, to the right of the speedometer (the same display that shows hybrid information, navigation, audio, climate, etc.). They appear then a few seconds later disappear. I’m wondering what that’s about, since I can’t seem to find anything in the manual about it. Is it just information (hey, your menus are open down below), or is there a way to control them up there? Thanks!
The upper display is the "Multi Information Display" or MID. Perhaps this answers your question (from my 2018 PDF manual page 187):
Thanks for both the reference and “MID,” that’ll help me search in the future. Looks like it’s just information only. Funny thing was I had the car for almost eight months before I noticed it was doing it one day.
You can customize it to turn off the pop-up menu icons as stated in the manual under Meter Customize setting. I turned off all pop-up display that I can turn off under the setting. They are so annoying and most of them served no function for me.
Good to know, and I concur. Most of them drive me insane, especially the one that pops up when a car moves in front of you or passes out of radar range.
Those 3 bubble pop-ups is meant to divert your eyes away from the big screen (since those bubbles appear low on the 11.6" MFD) and towards the MID where it's higher up on the dash and closer to your line of sight.
