I'm quite amused: Mercedes EQ Brand Plans 10 Models to Take on Tesla - Bloomberg “We’re now flipping the switch,” Daimler Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche said. “We’re ready for the launch of an electric product offensive that will cover all vehicle segments, from the compact to the luxury class.” After Tesla guts their USA brand, luxury cars, it is about time . . . Under the strategy, which is backed by plans to invest 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) in battery technology, electric cars would account for as much as 25 percent of Mercedes deliveries by 2025. The aggressive push marks a departure from Mercedes’s previous approach of offering electric offshoots of existing models, like with the van-like B-Class. Stand-alone models and a separate nameplate will give Mercedes’s electric vehicles more visibility to better compete with Tesla, in which Daimler was an early investor. Opps, they shared technology with Tesla? Bob Wilson
Elon Musk sees more plug-in cars on the road as a win, especially if it's from other automakers. It took him stealing a piece of their market share pie and eating it to force their hand. But at least they can no longer claim "nobody wants electric cars" anymore.
Will Toyota sue them over the EQ? The B-class EV was like the Rav4 EV; converted by Tesla. Unlike Toyota, M-B may not have let the partnership end.
i wonder if wall street will take notice of all these companies statements, or if they will keep trying to short tesla stock.
