Okay, here is the situation I have noticed the last couple of months. I generaly stay on the energy screen and I have noticed that the mpg readout on this screen gets "stuck," ie, it stays on the same MPG for 5-10 seconds. This used to happen every once in a while (used to be maybe once every two weeks), but now it seems like it happens a couple of times a week. I have started switching back and forth from the energy to consumption and then back. When I do this, the mpg readout becomes dynamic again. Could this be an early sign of MFD failure? I am very quickly approaching the 36K mile warranty and wonder if this means I should spring for the extended warranty. (Don't know if it matters, but it is a 2004 Package 6). EDIT: Woohoo, post #500, I feel special, really special.
I don't think it's a problem. Maybe just that you've got smoother on the gas or something. If everything else seems to be OK, ie the entire display isn't freezing up, then I think it's just a coincidence that you've noticed.
I honestly don't know. I thought it could be just a fluke, but it is happening more often. The most often seems to be when I take my foot of gas to start regening and the mpg will show XX.X mpg that is much lower than the 99.9 mpg. Hopefully your right though. I am probably just looking for something wrong on the MFD since it would be one repair that would pretty much pay for the extended warranty.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(micheal @ Jun 14 2006, 12:03 AM) </div> Let us know if it continues. I've heard that the 2004 seems to have problems with the MFD and some have had it replace under warranty. Perhaps it can be done for yours. Congrats on the 500th post. If you go to "My Controls," you should now see an option to change what's under your Avatar from "Serior Prius Poster" to whatever you want.
If this really is a sign of a problem, then I would think it would be. Unfortunately though, the warranty is going to expire within the wee,. And this isn't a problem I can necessarily reproduce for the service people. I have a feeling that they would not see it as a problem and then I wouldn't have any documentation of a problem prior to warranty expiration. From reading the stories of others with MFD failure, it seems that the symptoms have been much more pronounced (i.e. the whole screen freezes or displays nothing) and is often related to either extreme cold temps or high humidity. None of those the case here, so I think it probably is just all in my head, paranoid for any potential sign of a MFD repair bill. I will update if anything comes of this. Thanks for the Avatar tips btw, I didn't realize it changed at 500.
