Bill Gates will help pick his successor, who will either make the company more relevant or continue like they have the past decade. Microsoft's Steve Ballmer to retire in 12 months - NBC News.com
In nearly every company started with a technology pioneer at the helm, once success was achieved the CEO position is nearly always passed onto the "business" expert. Two quick examples: Apple went from Jobs to Scully. Microsoft went from Gates to Balmer. From the business expert, the mantel is passed to the bailout expert. I always laugh when the talk is about bringing in someone to return to the companies "innovative" early years. This new name is always some non-technology bureaucrat with lots of financial hubris as their background and no real history of innovation. No tears here for Microsoft. They will follow in IBMs footsteps and become a consulting company.
I didn't realize how crazy this dude was about Microsoft. Steve Ballmer's wackiest, craziest, downright funniest moments at Microsoft | PCWorld
well, they lucked out in their start up, getting the operating system from some guy in cali when ibm was desperate. brilliant move to license it and not sell it. who knows how it all really went down and what gates did and what ballmer did. what have they done since then but create bad code and live off the royalties?
A Collection of Quotes From Steve Ballmer - John Paczkowski - News - AllThingsD is pretty appropriate. The 1st video was dubbed Monkey Boy AGES ago, WAY before YouTube existed. Developers, developers, developers was dubbed Monkey Boy II, also WAY before YouTube existed. I posted those long ago at Happy Birthday Microsoft Windows! | Page 2 | PriusChat and probably a bunch more times before that. I don't think it QDOS came from a "some guy in Cali" as it came from Seattle Computer Products.
