2013 Prius. The mpg bars are correct but the mpg readout and average speed on the dash are not correct. Is there a way to reset it?
What exactly do you mean by "not correct" ? Those numbers all tend to be off a bit, maybe 10% would be considered "normal".
how can you know if the average speed is not correct? and how can you match up the running average of the mpg's to the fluctuating current mpg bar?
About the only easy way to check it is to set a highway cruise control speed, then reset a Trip meter, then see what average speed displays while cruising at a single speed. And even then, one needs to remember that the speedometer display itself is not correct, but reads slightly high. I'm seeming to remember a few other readers discovering that the Trip average speed doesn't have the same built-in error as the speedometer. An alternate but more involved way of checking average speed display would be to reset a Trip meter and start a handheld GPS trip at the same time, and compare. This would allow checking on trip segments with varying speeds. Just be sure to use the GPS's overall average speed, not 'moving average'.
Drive 60 mph for 3 minutes, stop stationary for 3 minutes, avg speed will be 30 mph. Below was last week's tank, the average speed is incorrect.
You are approaching a hill. It is a half mile to the top of the hill.......and a half mile back down the other side. If you go UP the hill at 30 MPH, how fast must you go down the other side to average 60 MPH for the whole trip over the hill ???
