I believe I was the first 2010 Prius owner to change their own oil and filter, used Mobil 1 0X20 synthetic and factory filter. There has been past discussion that Mobil 1 was not recommended. I have read my owners manual and there has been no memo that I am aware of not recommending Mobil 1 oil 0x20 synthetic. If there is I just violated my warranty. Alfon
There is a lot of misinformation from dealerships, and this has been covered in other threads about 2010 oil changes. Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, if Toyota requires a special motor oil in the Prius, they have to provide it free
In a word yes per Toyota's communications manager: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22704. Please see the other posts about this topic. Peter
Absolutely true, same applies to oil filters and other parts. Here is some information from a couple of manufacturers, oil and tires, as examples: Warranties and the Magnuson-Moss Act Magnuson Moss Act You definitely did not void your warranty, Mobil 1 0W-20 meets all of the requirements listed in the owners manual. Even if you had used some kind of oil that did not meet the Toyota requirements, which you didn't, the burden of proof is on Toyota. They would have to prove the engine failure was caused because you used the wrong oil.
