Source: September 2018 YTD U.S. Passenger Car Sales Rankings – Best-Selling Cars In America | GCBC Code: Model Month Month LY Change Toyota Camry 27,640 34,732 -20.42% Honda Accord 25,357 29,789 -14.88% Honda Civic 24,806 35,452 -30.03% Tesla Model 3 22,250 117 18,917% Toyota Corolla Family 20,797 32,769 -36.53% Ok, disregard the Tesla Model 3 percent change because it was a new model last year. Now THAT is hard data. Not #1 in medium, premium, light-colored, passenger sedans sold east of the rockies......but..... T3 > Corolla for the month....and closing in on Camry! Nicely done!
My expectation is when the initial demand tapers off: refresh Model S/X - fix the know issues including more cooling, 2170 cells, improve design for manufacture, PM rear motor, e.t.c. semi-trailer, pickup, and Model Y high density, car carrier towable, high efficiency, 50-60 kW generator (Sterling??, Achates??) If you're talking small sedans.... Hands down, bar none, without question, the new Honda Civics are all over Southern California. I see 10 New Civics for every 1 new Prius. And the Corolla is probably number 2, along with the Hyundai Elantra. Camry? WHO? Where the heck are they.... they sure ain't here. It's big and it's ugly. In the sporty expensive sedan category, I'm seeing a lot of Audis. Great looking car. Tesla? Only a few. In mostly the affluent areas. You know, the snobby rich people who got nothing more to do than drop $100K on a Model S. It would be a cold day in hell before I ever blow $100,000 on a car that's just going to get me from home, to Walmart! And the WINNER in the "Thug Car" category... The Dodge Challenger has no competition.
And why in the heck is Musk digging a car tunnel under Los Angeles?! The Boring Company? Do you want to get stuck down there if there's a fire? An earthquake? A wreck? How is fire/rescue supposed to access that tunnel to help people??? He had better just stick to building affordable cars, and giving rides to Mars. I'd buy a ticket. You only live once. And I have yet to see even one Tesla recharging station! Are they only in Beverly Hills?! They will never succeed unless he makes those cars affordable to every average Joe & Jane, and you can recharge them with solar power. But I'm all for electric buses, delivery trucks, taxis, etc, etc.
Maybe. But I wouldn't be too proud of that. I think Dodge/Chrysler will lease a Challenger to any thug and low-life that walks in the door. Going to be a LOT of Repos out there.....
The same way it is handled for all the other tunnels in use through out the world. Just on a larger scale.
if you can bore underneath the English Channel, years & years ago - pretty much everything else is Child's Play. .
Short video on USA Today about the Musk Los Angeles "tunnel." I'll let you go first. 125 MPH in a pod...? And what happens if there's a power outage? Elon Musk: First tunnel under LA will welcome rides soon "The concept behind Loop has changed over the months. Most recently, Musk said that it would no longer provide the high-speed electric-powered platforms, or "skates," for cars to race beneath the surface, but instead will focus on pedestrians and cyclists."
Oh, I don't know. I guess because I've been in several? And my area is in the " rolling blackout grid." And Los Angeles is about 200 years behind in fixing roads, water pipes, sewers, dams, bridges, freeways, power stations... I think I'll move to Boston. Or better yet... Mars with Musk.
Installations such as a tunnel will have their own emergency back up power. Road tunnels have massive ventilation systems. They go down during grid lock, and people can die.
$35K model 3! It will be introduced by the end of 4Q18 with deliveries to non-employees in early 2019. Demand will be greater than ever. Where is the Prime in the sales chart? I guess initial demand is over.
