Is there any differences between the j2534 mongoose interface cables for Toyota/Gmc/Ford/Nissan ....etc as in are they vehicle branded specific or just a cable Mine shot and I can get one a guy was using for gmc cheap Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Apparently that might be a good shot for you to take because all these supposed fake cables which I don't understand how you can fake a standard. Like the J and its number. I mean to me that would be like fake ansi standards.? I mean that's like just too weird but in this day and age I guess that's just part of new living. I got my cable from a Toyota dealer and the computer that houses the Toyota software from somebody that stole it was allowed to take it don't know or care but it's exactly what I've seen at the Toyota dealer when I worked there years ago basically a CF19 toughbook and a USB cable with a clear cord strain relief that lights up green indoor red when data is or isn't moving and the big OBD plug which attaches that cord to that strain relief to this OBD plug which is red and when it's plugged into the computer in the TIS software it shows a little green dot down in the right hand side of the screen above the start button but on the opposite side of the screen and it says DLC3 connector. When it's plugged up initially to the laptop it's found as a Mongoose cable j standard like you're speaking of and that's that so I would tend to trust a cable that came from somebody at a dealership because they work there got it from there whatever rather than something that was just purchased from Amazon unless you're buying from the company that Chapman talks about here where you're paying I don't know what it is $170 plus for a cable You may not be getting anything a fake j standard cable that can't perform many of the functions then that's useless. So I might try that if I don't know what cheap is you don't say but I would definitely probably give that a shot especially if the person at the dealership is worth their salt as a human I guess I'd say You're not dealing with some kid.? It is easy to get burned these days as you see by what goes on on the regular.
Basically the same setup we used at the dealership I worked at myself I'm actually using a CF-31 toughbook and had a mongoose cable specifically for TIS but the thing crapped out on me. I have the clear cable Amazon knockoff but for functionality on some aspects it's useless and will give error aka brake bleeding actuator replacement yaw zero down etc...... The only thing I've noticed is online the new mongoose cables that are manufactured specific are all different prices hence why I asked if a GMC J2534 cable is still the same as the Toyota one Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I do not believe they are the same, unfortunately. Their CarDaq lines are for multi-vehicle makes. Fleet Maintenance - DrewTech “If you do not need to work on every make of vehicle, MongoosePro interfaces support reprogramming for a single make.”
So I guess anybody that wants to make a j2534 cable can wire it up anyway they want to and just to fix the j 2534 standard sticker label to it and that's the end of that but that isn't how standards work. Toyota and GM have worked very closely since the '80s that being said if I could get the cable cheap enough or if the person would let me try it I don't think there's much to lose AC Delco makes ECMs and ECUs for a lot of Toyota models or they did I have a Corolla with an AC Delco ECU that runs the whole car in it right behind my ashtray and console that says AC Delco right on it and it's also a piss poor computer that needed a firmware update because of the 2 02 sensors range being too tight or something Toyota tried to charge people $169 to flash their firmware back in whatever it was 2005 or something in the update came available other than that you were riding around with the check engine light on and there was no fix in the planet no matter what you did with the O2 sensors of the converter you were just done a lot of Corollas were probably sold off for this problem because they couldn't get inspected in those stupid states.
My OBD red plug on my Mongoose cable or the Mongoose assembly has four screws in it I can undo the screws and see what pins go to what portion of the cable I guess or what have you so you could physically take the cover off the cable and take a picture put the screws back in and put it back together take the cover off of mine I send a picture of it and if to pin outs look the same then pretty much it should work.
Please look at “Cable Check” results in first post: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/general-discussions/150824-solution-mini-vci-toyota-tis-techstream-8-x-windows-7-8-64-bit.html OBDII has some leeway in what is connected on certain pins it seems…
