I was playing around with my 2010 and 2012 cars earlier and noticed that 2012 had a lot more power. Although these cars are suppose to be the same, I can tell there is a much smoother/higher power delivery with my 2012. So for kicks I swapped the ECU over from my 2012 to my 2010 and noticed the 2010 have much better power with the newer 2012 ECU. Does anyone here know why the refresh models have more power? I know the specs on the car are the same so something about the power delivery is different. If there is no harm, I might just buy a 2012+ ECU and put it in my 2010.
If you look in text dream doesn't show your ECU has got the latest updates and all that installed for it maybe that's just the problem.
Can’t seem to upload a picture, but I swapped the one next to the brake and inverter coolant reservoir All my cars have been updated, the power reduction inverter recall updated mostly everything in the car.
Strange it would make sense if your 2012 did not have the J0V update but you are saying that both cars had the update and notice an improvement in power. Thanks for doing this and I wonder if an ecu without the J0V update can be installed. Ever since that update there has been a power reduction from the inverter.
??? The E0E recall had one firmware update for the power management control ECU (in the dash) and one for the MG ECU (inside the inverter box). The later J0V recall had an additional update for the power management control ECU. (They also checked the MG ECU to make sure it got the original update if the folks doing E0E had forgotten that step, which some of them had.) Two ECUs out of a couple dozen ....
I believe the last recall I did on the 2010 car was the J0V recall. I always ask the service adviser to update any TSBs needing ECU updates. They normally will update for free if the car is in for recall/warranty service. On the 2012, the previous owner did the updates. I can't remember if he did it at Toyota or at Hybrid Pit, but there was paperwork requesting the latest updates for the ECUs Edit: Anyways, swapping the ECU over to a 2010 didn't work for long, got a check engine light on the 3rd drive. Although there seems to be more power, must be something not compatible between the 2 cars
I was just wondering if when you scanned the car with tech you see that there are no updates needed for any of the computers in the car That's all I was asking I didn't know if a firmware update would make this happen or it's a completely different computer with completely different firmware which is probably likely.
At the time I traded in my three-year-old 2010 for a new 2012, I noticed no difference. Of course, that was before any of the above-named updates.
They all will, whatever VIN was tied to that vehicle you got it from. I cannot confirm how to fix that, but JC has the right answer above there.
