More throttle info A sudden inspiration this afternoon, stemming somewhat from a discussion over on cleanmpg, led to an add-on page to the throttle body stuff. This shows where the throttle flap sits at various percentages of position as reported by the computer. Enjoy. It was a fun little photographic project, for the most part.. . _H*
Hmmph. I cleaned it pretty thoroughly maybe TWO YEARS ago, and relative to how most cars would be by now, it's pretty pristine. I also dropped a teeny bit of lube on the shaft pivots while I was in there yesterday. Didn't want to keep the airbox off too long, because it's still pollen season up here in a big way.. . _H*
Re: More throttle info Hi Hobbit, Fascinating... I assume that the car was IG-ON (not READY) when these readings were taken? What instrumentation do you use to determine the throttle opening %s? Hi Doug, Glad that someone noticed my throttle body avatar; that photo is of the 2001. I'm rotating various Prius photos through the avatar on a monthly cycle.
Yup, it was IG-ON so the throttle motor wasn't trying to fight me, and I just eyeballed the autoenginuity reading until it was stable before snapping the pic. The car still threw a code afterward, of course, because I had the MAF/IAT connector off while the ECU was powered up, but not biggie as it just reset later. . _H*
Watch your fingers! That motor is powerful. I've seen one eat a screwdriver and bend the throttle plate. Students!!!
Anyway, I liked the animation also. But to really clean the butterfly, one should unmount the throttle body. It is the only use for 5/16" bolts wrapped with electrical tape. To plug the koolaid tubes, of course.
