my mpg has dropped over he pas 2 weks from usually 56-58mpg o 47mpg now. why is that??? the temperature outside is about 15-20 degrees cooler
In colder temperatures the ICE will be engaged more for longer, because it takes longer to warm up, and uses gas in the warm up process. It also cools down from warm state more quickly, requiring warming to happen more often.
and if you use the heat, it will run even more. also more tire and air friction in cooler weather and they might have switched to winter blend gas which costs you about 10% in mpg's.
The more you can avoid short trips, consolidate chores, the better. The short trips with engine heating up are just harder on mileage.
