After a search of this excellent forum, I still have the question: What are the must-have dealer-only accessories you recommend for the Prius (05 Siler, Pkg 6)? Are there third party manufacturers that make better accessories than Toyota? I should be picking my new car up within the next two weeks and should probably order the accessories now... TIA, Gregg.
The Toyota floor mats, although they fit nicely, get dirty pretty fast and are a bit difficult to clean. That goes with the territory of having carpeted floor mats. Now, Toyota this year did introduce all weather floor mats, so if floor mats are coming, get them to trade you up to the all weather floor mats. However, Toyota's pricing on floor mats is outrageous. Here are a couple of sources of floor mats that I think are better. Weathertech mats are very soft rubber, but very thick and pliable. Their front mats for the Prius are not totally exact to the floor shape and contour, but do fit properly, snugly in some places and with some gap in others. Their classic mat has very deep grooves which catch liquid and dirt very well and contain it on the mat. Vacuuming the inside of the car is a breeze with these mats in place because so little dirt ends up outside of the matt. I have these mats, and now that they have a cargo area mat out, I will be purchasing that eventually. Exactmats are sold through dealers, such as parts stores and car dealer parts desks. They work especially well if you are going to lay the exact mat on top of the factory floor mat since they are transparent. I don't have personal experience, however I'm lead to believe they fit very well and are made to the floor contour and shape of each car. I can't vouch for their dirt holding capability, that is why I went with the WeatherTech mat. Other dealer accessories may be a waste of money and are usually have huge markup. I'd avoid most dealer accessory offers. Since you are buying a package 6, there isn't much the dealer can provide to you that the car doesn't already have.
A little bottle of touch-up paint would be my only purchase from the dealer. If you have a gray interior, the gray rubber floormats (set of 4 for $20) at Costco are a great deal. Rob
These ar the things on my list 1. Multi-media interface for MFD 2. in dash DVD/MP3 player (goes in the little flip down cubby) 3. Back-up camera (for such a small car it does tend to have a large and delicate butt) 4. I already have a small 50 Watt power convertor for phone/laptop/pda charging or future X-Box (I spend a lot of time in the car)
1. Power Outlet Modification by Coastaletech.com to keep front cell phone on even when the car is not. 2. clear bumpers for side edge of door (dealer) 3. Side mouldings- see http://www.metrotpn.com/Middle/Priusmouldings.aspx 4. Horizontal (not vertical cargo net)- http://store.davidhonl.com/- mention Prius caht for discount.
