I was all set to replace my compressor today. (It will not run although fuse, orange cable and good and it had plennty of freon before evacuation). I watched a youtube on replacing the compressor. One video guy replaced the compressor and the condenser. He said to replace the receiver/dryer if opening the system. I had not thought of that. How important is it that I replace the receiver/dryer? Another video guy replaced the compressor and did not mention replacing the receiver/dryer. Is it a "MUST" or a "should" to replace the receiver/dryer when replacing the compressor?
It's a "should", If your compressor blew up, shredded - it should be replaced. The dryer/receiver is like the "oil filter" of the AC system. If your compressor clutch stopped working, electric motor in the Prius case, you don't need to replace it; unless you had mechanical issues tossing debris into the system. Mode of failure is important in this case. IMHO.... Hope this helps....
Yes, thanks. I mounted the compressor. It is from a 2013 Prius. There is an orange pigtail mounted on a bracket that my 2010 compressor does not have. The original long orange cable reached O.K. and it pluged in O.K. In other words, it fits. If you need to buy an ebay compressor, the later gen 3 compressors will fit 2010 through 2012 models. And, both have the label "HFC134a" Denso label.
