I was backing out of a parking space today, when I shifted back into drive, the car continued to go backwards. I tried going to B, but still reverse, I put in park and then back to drive and it was still reversing. After putting it in park and turning it off it finally decided to go forward. Is this a known problem? It's kinda freakin' me out.
That's a weird one. Given that the shifter [even in a Classic, except for Park] is an electrical state, it sounds like the hybrid ECU lost track of where your shifter was and needed a swift kick [reboot] to get the idea back. If it continues happening, suspect the wiring interface between the shifter and the hybrid computer... . _H*

As Hobbit said, the system is basically electrical/electronic. Sometimes there's a glitch - often involving a memory chip - that does not repeat itself. This is true of just about anything with a chip. The HV ECU reboot theory (upon shutdown) makes sense.
