I was very upset that the spoiler on my prius got a very little gouge from the garage door opener. I modified the opener mechanics, but not enough. And wouldn't you know it, a couple of days ago it became scratched when the garage door was coming down. I have touched it up. Is there a warning for Toyota about the excessive rise on the rear deck. I have since complely modified the garage door opener, so It will not happen again. Thanks for any comments
I hear ya. I usually scramble to unload the groceries before my DH gets home in case he pushes the button to open the garage before he rounds the corner. I always try to pull in a little more so the car is in deeper but there's always that chance just because the rear deck does lift higher than normal.
It's so you can fit big stuff in it. I've never been in a garage that was tall enough to open the boot of a car (people just don't try. My last garage, my sister in law parked her golf in there once and the aerial hit the roof), guess american garages must be taller?
Most American garages are standard ceiling height = 8 ft. Mine is 9'4" because it is a concrete block home (survives hurricanes better in Florida) and I added an extra course of blocks when building it. Makes for nice spacious feeling in the house.
How about using a bungee cord to keep the rear hatch from opening all the way? (I'm just grabbing at straws here.) How about a different garage door; maybe one that opens like a gate rather than an overhead? I guess I can't relate to the problem since my garage ceiling is 15'. Try finding a step ladder for that ceiling! Send a pic of the Prius in your garage with the hatch open. We got some creative folk here at PC.
I bought a piece of water pipe insulation at Home Depot (~$1), and stapled a piece to the garage door frame, and glued 2 more layers.
So I don't hit my head on the top which is 6'2". I don't understand hitting the garage door opener. They should be about 7 feet above the floor.
I have a fairly standard house I think and my garage is 9 feet, as I step down a foot or so to get into it. I just checked and could almost stack two priuses on top of each other!
Many garages have very high ceilings, but the overhead doors are framed too low, negating the benefit of high ceilings. I don't know why contractors do things like that. I suppose it saves a bit of money; i.e. not needing as tall of a garage door. Someone said to put a bump pad on the garage door. I liked that idea.
