Earlier this year, my alma mater (a college of about 1000 students) received a land gift of nearly 8,000 acres of farm land from a Fellow who passed away. On that farm, there are now 32 of the giant wind turbines. This makes the college the largest private landowner with most wind turbines east of the Mississippi. The college will receive $50,000 per year in rent per turbine. That's $1.6 million for all you math folks. This is great news for my school so I wanted to share it here in the Environmental forum. below is the story. It's from back in March, but I just joined the forum a couple weeks ago. What's also cool is the requirement that it remain farmland. In another thread we're making jokes about making all of Nebraska a wind farm, but with this real world example, it's clear that both Indiana and Nebraska farming would countinue unaffected.
