My 8 y/o son wanted to see how little fuel we could use in the trip home to Spring Green from Cub Scout Day Camp in Blue Mounds. We had great fun in the first 14 miles from Brigham Park to Arena where we managed to achieve 99.8 mpg. (I will confess that it was mostly downhill and we never exceeded 50 MPH, but there was no need to go faster and the countryside is gorgeous to observe at slower speeds.) We ended up with 83.6 mpg for the complete 25 mile trip home. It was a fun time discussing hypermiling techniques with him. I hope it will be a learning experience he never forgets. In my dreams... when he and his buddies start driving; they will be competing to see who can achieve the highest MPG instead of the fastest MPH.
Blue Mounds Day Camp, eh? I'll be taking my wolf and webelos to the Day Camp at Camp Carlson. 83.6? Nicely done. Maybe we need to have a hypermiling belt loop?
