I was reading the car manual for my 2011 2 Prius. It showed a picture of 2 electronic keys in the manual. When I purchased the Prius on 12/28/11 I was given only one key. Since you can't go to the hardware store and have a key cut for a few dollars, I wrote to Toyota in California. A week later I got a call from the dealer that sold me the Prius telling to pick up my second electronic key.
Huh... So the inference is that The Dealer had your second key the whole time? Which would beg the question, why didn't they call you years ago and tell you?
Dealership got negative feedback from corporate and were told to "make it right" most likely.... My guess. They probably paid to have a new fob made or it's possible they did have the second key laying around, which is weird.
