The name of Panasonic EV Energy, the main HV battery supplier for Toyota hybrid vehicles, has been changed to Primearth EV Energy Co., Ltd. on June 2nd. I found the Chinese suggestion for what Panasonic should do for the NiMH battery business for hybrid vehicles remarkable: Contention: "With a 77% market share, Panasonic’s joint venture with Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), Panasonic EV Energy Co., Ltd, (PEVE) would be in a position to eliminate competition." Proposal: "Panasonic to divest its nickel-metal hydride batteries for this business"
Good. It's about time they reduced the confusion. Are they still on track to double 2009 production levels by 2011? (If I remember correctly, they are building a new factory that will double production, right?) clarification, since the link you posted lists numerous news articles: "Double Prius batteries"
I think it was "double 2008 production levels by end of 2010". You can see "Started production at Miyagi Plant on Jan 22nd, 2010" on the PEVE News site. It is the first production line at Miyagi plant and the second line will be available later this year. The max annual production capability number is... 2008: 0.5 million packs 2009: 0.8 million packs 2010: 1.1 million packs So, Toyota will be ready to sell 1 million hybrid vehicles a year dream. :first: The news site also says... Dec 20th, 2008: Accumulative battery pack production reached 2 million pcs Jun 2nd, 2010: Accumulated battey pack production reached 3 million pcs Ken@Japan
Another news about PEVE... One of Panasonic’s acquisition of Sanyo subject to conditions Reduce its stake in PEVE to 19.5% from 40% On Apr 1st, 2010, Toyota increased the stake in PEVE, then Toyota now owns 80.5% of PEVE. Ken@Japan
"eliminate competition" ?? What does that mean ... just batteries? Supposedly, the new battery plant in Smyrna Tennessee built for Leaf production will be capable of manufacturing 200,000 battery pack per year. Nissan LEAF Electric Car | Gallery | made in America .
