I bought a used 2001 Prius in 2007, it now has 127,000 miles on it, and the hybrid battery just went out. Is there anyone out there who knows where I can find a used battery? My mechanic doesn't think buying one from a salvage yard is a good idea...does anyone have any thoughts? I just can not justify investing $4000 in a new battery.
What's the difference between buying a "used" battery and buying a "salvage" battery? Here's a battery in southern CA for $750: eBay Motors: TOYOTA PRIUS 01 02 03 BATTERY HV SERVICE REPAIR (item 190298079082 end time May-01-09 12:38:56 PDT) MSRP for a new Classic battery should be around $2,800 plus installation labor. You can try replacing just the failed battery module (and perhaps also the ones immediately adjacent to the failed unit), but there's no guarantee that will work if you can't get the newly installed module SOC to match the other modules: eBay Motors: TOYOTA PRIUS BATTERY CELLS HV HYBRID 2001-2003 (item 370180903514 end time Apr-08-09 12:35:03 PDT)
Champion Toyota don't have 2001 battery pack in stock but I checked the pack for 04-09. To my surprise, it now costs only $1,967. The shipping and bounty fee would cancel out.
