Here is the story. I'm driving Prius for about 3-4 weeks now and I love it. Living in NYC metro area I spend most of my time driving around New York so naturally I have you use the horn all the time and this horn gets no respect. Cabs cut you off, bike messengers don't move to the side, pedestrians don't even give me second look. I'm sure many people on this forum have same problem so I was wondering if anyone installed something better and if so what and how much did it cost. P.S. This forum is addictive I learned so much from everyone here. Thanks !!!!!
These days the horn is electronic. That's probably why. Some BMWs have the exact same problem. Ask your dealer, maybe they know how to change it. Drive safely in NY.
I don't have the same requirement for a horn during regular traffic. Still, I did feel the same need to be heard and not ignored. For this reason, I went out and bought new horns to replace the OEMs in the 2010. Here is the thread I started to explain what I'd done: New Horn Installed: I Think They'll Hear Me Now! I hope this helps you!
It's pretty easy to change the horn and quite a few PriusChatters have. Lots of threads on this. Here are the search results for "horn" in the title of threads: PriusChat Forums - Search Results
I tested my Prius horn once, out on an open empty road with no nearby buildings. It worked. I haven't tried it since. Tom
Had Fiams on my Laverda. Them things would part traffic like Moses and the Red Sea. Don't really need them where I am now, but would put a set in if living in a major metro area. Seems they should be a bolt on replacement.
