2010 Prius 340,000 miles. In 10 months I put 200,000 miles on my Prius. It's a great car and I want to do everything I can to save her. Lately I have been dealing with codes. I have just replaced the stroke sensor, front shocks, and the coolant pump. Also I have to take her to the dealer as there were 4 recalls on her that I don't know about. She is currently at the dealer to get that fix. BUT my major problem is the code P0A80 which ask to replaced the hybrid battery. I have taken out the battery to test it (load and unloaded) and it falls within spec and are balanced to one another. It still showing that code and it's coming on more often after I erased it. Then I bought another used battery, test it and put it in. Still through the same code exactly the same way. How is this possible that 2 batteries acting the same way with the same code?? There has to be something else, a common denominator??? Side note: while at the toyota dealer, I asked for them how much to do the diagnose on my car? They said $140. Ok great, but I also ask them to give me a cell per cell diagnosis. He then ask me if my intention were to replaced the cells only? I said Yes. He changed his tune right away and said, "I can't promise that we can help you sir." LOL So now here I am in this forum asking for help. Thank you
Buy yourself a OBD2 dangle and download TechStream software, save yourself $140 and some headache dealing with the dealership?
"stroke sensor"?????? So you just bought another HV battery and changed it? That's a lot more than the $140 to find the real problem. How did you test it? Have you tested the 12v battery? "IF" you are talking about the 12v battery, there is no sense in buying a used one, unless you KNOW for a FACT that it is still good and will last a few years.
A member once fixed the same code just by replacing the 12v battery, thought the person was kidding but it was real. Sounds like that can be your fix because 2 different HV bats produced the same code assuming both hv battery were in working operating condition. I would take that route next
Can I ask how you managed to put 200,000 miles on a car in 10 months? I do ride share driving and won’t come close to that
I drive for Uber and Lyft. I put about 500 miles a day. You are 100%. I and my car dont rest. We run 7 days a week about 18 hours a day. I've been doing this for almost 1.5 years now. Broke man cant rest. Checked 12V, it's all good. Both I and Autozone checked it JUST bought BlueDriver OBD2 scanner. The problem is it's not compatible with Torque Pro. Errrrr another set back.
is this uber/lift thing a scam? everyone that comes on here says they can't afford to fix their car, but if you listen to the companies, drivers are making a fortune
I do Uber/Lyft as well.. I don’t think on my longest day that I’ve done 500 miles .. Maybe “ride share” is not the correct term for doing Uber/Lyft.. Feel free to PM about anything Uber/Lyft related..
I'm in the same boat I use my 2013 Prius for ride-share in the Bay area and have put in over 177k miles with over 130k miles within 3 years. A few months ago my 1st "check hybrid system..." warning came on with 2 codes; 1 was POA080 and the 2nd can't recall what it was but I did all the diagnostic and labor to get it back on the road. According to Napa the 12v auxiliary battery is about to die. I tested all the hybrid modules, found all was still within specs holding charge with a load on it and just go ahead and replaced 12v battery. Buttoned everything up and it ran just like new. Then took it to a local Toyota dealership to have the Hybrid system recall done. They did that and said no other issue found in the hybrid system. Fast forward 2 months later and here I am with the POA080, according to all the scanners the hybrid battery pack needs to be replaced. (Happy to say my prius still runs but more like a non-hybrid vehicle) I'm in the process of getting the Toyota Techstream software to get more details of what is wrong with the hybrid system/battery pack. I'm hoping I can just replace a few modules or something simpler and cheaper than the whole unit...Please share the details if you made progress getting yours fixed.
