Before I bought my package V, I read all the posts about the lousy sound system. I really tried to get one with just the standard system so I could replace the whole thing. I didn't succeed and now drive a car everyday that that has the worst sound system I've ever experienced. Given that the JBL was expensive, I really don't want to pull everything and start over. What changes can I make that will improve the overall sound quality? Would replacing the speakers and adding an amp and sub work? I realize I'm going to have to live with the lousy FM reception but am hoping that there's something I can do about the rest.
I went through the same thing. I got the III that had the JBL system and was not happy with it. I did a lot of research "several months" and just replacing the speakers will not be worth it. What I did was change the HU, AMP, & Speakers to get great sound quality. If you keep the factory HU and replace the AMP & speakers you will not be happy with the results. What is your budget? If you just replace the AMP & speakers and keep the factory HU you will have to install a cleansweep processor which will cost you the same amount $$ as putting in a new HU. You will get much better sound quality by replacing the factory HU with a aftermarket HU. If you keep the factory HU you will be very disappointed. There are many aftermarket HU's with Bluetooth & satellite radio and other options. You can purchase a new HU, AMP, speakers, & sub for (low end $800 and go up from there). If you hate the JBL system you will have to replace everything and for me it was worth every cent.
I just looked up the cleansweep processor you mentioned and it's not that expensive. Might be worth investigating. Thanks for the tip.
