I have a 2007 Prius package 2. I would like to put on Michelin - HydroEdge tires. I know some people here have used them, but when I went to a Michelin site, it says they don't have the proper size for a Prius. I am wondering if those who use them put on a different size wheel. I know nothing about tires so I am prime to be taken advantage of by the local tire dealers. Thanks for your advice.
Looks like that model tire is not available in the correct Prius size, so you may want to either choose a different tire model or else accept a non-standard size installed on your car (195/60R15, for example), which would potentially slightly affect the speedometer and odometer reading. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-prius-care-maintenance-troubleshooting/83545-hunt-hydroedges.html
Thanks for the link. I did actually read that earlier today. If I went with the HE 205/60-15, do I have to buy new rims, or can I just switch out the tires? (sorry, like I said, I know nothing about tires).
205/60R15 should fit on rims from 5.5" to 7.5" wide. The 2G non-Touring Prius wheel is 6" wide. Tire Dimensions Made Simple - Discount Tire Note that an actual tire of a particular size may vary from the values shown in the calculator. If you use tire chains in the winter, I would recommend caution in deciding to install wider-than-normal tires. You can also expect a slight mpg decline attributable to the wider tires. Good luck.
I have HydroEdge tires on my Prius. They are standard size tires and I purchase them at Costco ( they only install standard size tires on any car )185/65/15 is standard size for lot of cars not just for Prius. Please look at the Michelin link HydroEdge is first choice. 2005 Toyota Prius Standard Tires | Michelin Tires
The 205/60-15 work fine on stock rims. I just installed my second set. The first ones were BFG G-Force Sport at 67,000 miles on the OEM Goodyears. I damaged one of the BFGs with a nail, and the others were 60% worn, so I just put on Michelein Pilot Exalto A/S at 97,000 miles, also 205/60-15. The BFGs were noisy, but handle great. The Micheleins are much quieter, and handle OK (compared to OEM Integrities). The BFGs cost me about 5 mpgs over stock, and I got a couple of them back with the Micheleins. Going to a wider non stock size may affect your gas mileage, but I think the feel, and handling is well worth it. Go for it.
I have 31,000 miles on my 2008 Prius. It had service every 5,000 miles with tire rotation each time. Pressure was maintained at 43 psi. This seems like very poor mileage on the original Goodyear Integrity tires. Did I get decent mileage on the originals? Can anyone suggest replacement tires.
The OEM Integrities are terrible tires. I think you're lucky you got so many miles on them! We have the Hydroedges on our Prius, and love them.
I only got 25,000 miles, which is about average for the Integrity. I got Michelin X tires at Costco (because that was the only tire they had in stock that fit). They are great! The ride is much smoother and the car corners like my old BMW.
My wife's 2004 has had Michelin Hydroedge which she didn't like because they were so noisy. She has Michelin X now and we are shopping for a new set of tires. Has anyone tried the new BridgeStone Escopia 422H or EP100, Hankook Optimo 725 or Kumho Solus KR22 or Kumho KH16 tires? Up to now we have been getting tires at Costco, but I am considering other options than Michelin. I've discussed the Hydroedge with a couple of tire shops in the area and they were all very negative about this tire. Costco has the Bridgestones with a $70 for 4tires rebate at Costco until 9/12, then a Michelin rebate starts up after that. Current price for either BS is $90.99 + $15 M&B + $2.75 per tire, less the rebate. Any thoughts? After an hour or two of research, I am leaning toward Kumho KR22 from tireteam.com. 800 treadwear rating, A, B and 100,000mi warranty. Best I've seen for a LRR tire.
I am using the Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 on both the 2004 and 2007. That model looks like it will last 50K miles (the warranty duration) based upon logging ~10K miles on the 2004 with those tires installed. The tires are very quiet and provide good handing. Note that EP100 is designated as a summer tire so it is not suitable for driving on snow. I bought the tires from Discount Tire (for the 2004) and from Costco including the $70 rebate (for the 2007). The price net of rebate is quite attractive.
I put Michelin Primacy MXV4 205/60/15 on my Prius. The tires work well, there was not hit on MPG for the wider tire, which works better in all respects then the OEM tire, and better then most other tires for all around use. If you don't get snow or ice, then the Hydroedges might be better (I didn't compare them.)
