Hi All, New 2014 prius owner with 20k miles on it. Bought it used. I want to install Oil Catch can and change my oil. Oil Catch can - I see several on amazon, not sure which one to get Oil Change and Filter - Thinking about Mobile 1 and OEM toyota filter Is there anyone in bay area that can help me do this? I'm not very mechanically inclined but I'm a quick learner if you can show me - Ideally you like working on cars and drinking beer (which I'll supply) Many Thanks
i wrote an OCC document and posted via my signature link. I'm not is SFO, but it has other good info in there - if you want to try DIY.
im not sure what every states laws are. but its still a closed system. i think i have read some CA folks state its okay in there state when they go in for an inspection. In Oregon, I dont know what happens either - but they usually just plug in computer (no engine bay inspection), and call it good (or bad), based on what the computer spits out. If you follow my steps - which are the same as many others who did the job - you are left with the u-shaped hose which can be put back on the car. My install just uses cable-ties too, which means removal is pretty easy. Lastly, if you are worried a great deal, some cans have the words "oil catch can" imprinted on the top. that is a dead giveaway. might want some more non-descriptive can. And use black fuel line tubing which blends in with every other black tube in the engine bay.
-Mobil One and OEM filter are a good choice -I cut the U shaped hose in half, swiveled each side down, and ran them to my OCC mounted below the air box via a Moroso bracket on frame. Easy to check at oil change time. -it’s invisible from top but here they just plug in OBD and check for codes.
There’s an oil catch can thread* linked in my signature. * the @danlatu thread, a biggie see initial post was over a year ago lol.
