The battery doesn't charge when your in neutral. Not a good thing and it even say's so in the owners manual. If your using the A/C and in neutral the BSOC drops fast. No charge going to the HV battery. Leave it in drive or put it in park.
Doesnt sound like the Germany I live in :lol: Most drivers sit about 1 1/2 foot behind you in the left lane at 150hmp on the freeway flashing to get past :x or they sit in the left lane when the right is empty. As for the indicators, I dont think there are lamps in the German cars
It's perfectly ok to shift to neutral at a red light. I do it frequently with the Prius, just as I have done with previous cars. Although the battery does not charge in neutral, you won't be there long enough to drain it.
OK, I'm curious: it probably causes no damage, but it interferes with the battery charging routine and it delays takeoff. So why do you do this? What benefit accrues? Does it turn off your red triangle warning light temporarily? :_>
I frequently shift into neutral at red lights in order to hold the car still with minimal foot pressure. Even with the lights and air conditioner on, the longest red light won't drop a bar from the battery. Shifting into D when the light turns red takes a fraction of a second; definitely less than pressing the clutch and engaging first gear in a stick-shift car.
