Los Angeles is changing couple of HOV lanes on I10 and 110 into HOT lanes (toll lanes). Any single passanger car can use the lane as long as they buy the fast track transponder and pay the fee. Multi passanger cars can use the toll road for free but they still have to buy the transponder and set on 2+ passanger mode. I have searched online and can't find anything on how the green carpool stickers that the the PIP is eligible for plays into this. Are we still allowed to use these lanes? Do we have to buy the transponder? There are plans to expand it to other freeways if the pilot program is successful.
In VA our new Hot Lanes will NOT be free nor discount for green cars. If its the same company you may have a web page you can check. Ours is expresslanes.com ps- no one I know will be using our controversial hot lanes. sort of a parallel universe with no traffic. We would need a special EZ Pass Flex that has a switch to turn off the toll if you have 3 riders.
Utah has Expresslanes also. It works with RFID tags that are tied to a credit card. There are "tolls" along the route that change in price due to demand. So, during rush hour it may cost $1.00 to go 5 miles where off times it will be .20 or even free. "Clean" cars can get free tag that is not charged.
For what it's worth, here's a link to a thread I started after reading in our local paper about this subject. PiP Eligible for Ca HOV/HOT Lanes
