New engines make 10x more soot than diesels

    The "new" direct injection gasoline engines make 10 times more soot (particulate matter) than diesel engines. In response the EU has mandated all GDI cars must have soot traps/filters just as the diesels are required to have.

    (ponder). GDIs also run lean and produce more NOx too..... perhaps someday they'll also carry urea injection systems?
