My car has been good until May when I started work fully. I noticed the AC not cooling at first, and then Tuesday morning , the energy monitor stopped showing though other functions on the MD unit still works properly. Tried the setting severally no luck, what could be going on? Then any pocket friendly technician in South Jersey that can check the AC. Still drives fine but just not sure if those two issues could be pointing to something bigger. Will greatly appreciate a guide/ response. Thanks
Anything connected to the diagnostic port above the driver's knees? Anything aftermarket added to the sound system?
Welcome to PriusChat!! Might be time to visit a local autoparts store and have the OBD2 codes (DTCs) scanned for free, then post them up here.
Abi, This may or may not help you, but I have seen AC problems be an early indicator of Inverter Cooling Water Pump failure. Loss of cooling flow to the inverter, (even without getting an overtemp alarm) in 2 different cars I've worked on, has resulted in intermittent loss of AC. What you don't want to do is spend a bunch of time and cash having someplace troubleshoot your AC until you at least verify the ICWP / inverter cooling loop is not the problem. Most places have no idea the inverter cooling system can cause the AC to stop working, and will end up replacing a bunch of parts, emptying your wallet.
Once I threw a DTC P0A93 and the pump appeared fine, of course it was replaced shortly there after (not taking chances). It happened after coming up to speed on the freeway, outside temp was around 93F.
I agree with this. The very first one I replaced was intermittent. Sometimes it ran, sometimes it didn't. Electrical things can be stupid like that sometimes. What I did notice, was that the new pump had much stronger flow ripples in the reservoir than the old pump did, even when it was working.
148,000. It's seen busay days Hmm not sure, except that some weeks ago Tyre pressure light came on, I observed 2 things after I give her an an oil change and fixed the Tyre pressure too and the technician cleared the Tyre pressure light, that same day the key port prompted to insert key which I did ( has never happened before) and after that I was able to lock the car. I really don't know if any aftermarket job was done on it.
