I installed (or more accurately, I watched as Zhe wiz generously installed) an EBH about 2 weeks ago. Since that time, I've noticed a new noise as the ICE starts. It sounds like the coolant transfer pump sound has changed from a whine to a chirp or a medium pitched bark. Everything seems to be running okay. Scangauge shows no codes. Should I just ignore this? Does this new sound indicate an impending malfunction? Lastly, could anything involved in the EBH install (that I should fix) have effected the coolant tranfer pump? My guess is that there is no explanation for this but I thought I would check here. Thanks.
The only thing I have noticed is that the coolant transfer pump changes it's sound somewhat when it gets cold but I only notice it at shutdown
Thanks. I'll have to monitor and report back. I'm thinking that if the EBH caused problems with the coolant pump we'd know about it...
Status report on new noise. I don't think it's the coolant pump. The noise seems to be after the coolant pump does it's thing. Its like a medium pitched barking like sound. It last two or three "barks" just before I start moving. It happens only now and then - perhaps every 6 or 10 times I start up. I have to listen more closely to say exactly when in the startup sequence the noise occurrs.
Update on mystery noise: Happening almost every time I start up. Sounds like a low honking sound, 3 or 4 times, after the ICE starts. Possibly starting after I put it into gear - but before I start moving. Any early guesses/ hypotheses as to what this might be? I could try to record the sound if Priuschat would allow me to post a sound file...
For those of you who have been following this thread, my problem seems to be "barking brakes."
