Drove my Prius Prime Plus off the lot today. It was the second dealer I visited because the first one had just sold out (he wanted to sell me a Mirai instead.) Happy with it so far, but it's only been a few hours. Once home I plugged the 120V charger cable into a wattmeter and I see that it draws just under 12 amps, as advertised, which in my case is around 1250 watts because out in the garage of this old house I'm only getting 108 Vac at that current. One question: the dealer told me if I loose that keyfob, it will cost me $800 to replace. Can that really be right? Are there some really special ingredients, or it's the usual simple RFID circuit and Toyota is a bit opportunistic with a proprietary part?

Buy an insurance policy. It will guarantee that you never loose the fob. I bought the policy through the dealer on our gen 3. The cost was $350 for up to 3 replacements. At the time the listed cost of one replacement was the same ( $350 ).
I misplaced a fob one time, and checked with the dealership: somewhere around $400. Still ridiculous, but half as ridiculous.
I put a little luggage tag on ours, with my phone number and email. All it takes is one inattentive valet parker, mechanic, tire installer, and you're screwed. Similar story with the locking lug nut socket: I tape a piece of paper with that info around the barrel.

Seems a bit pricey but smart key systems fobs/keys are more expensive than the traditional car key. There are two prices - one if you just lost one (and you need a replacement to be reprogrammed) or two if you lose both keys AND you lost your key identification tag - this one is gonna be hella $$$. So don't lose both and keep your key ident tag safe. It's the code that helps the dealer reprogram your keys.
