It's early, but does anyone already know how much the 2016 PIP battery costs and whether it can replace a 2012 battery?
there is no 2016 pip, they stopped making them. if you're asking about the next generation pip that is due at the end of this year, we don't know anything for sure. but i am sure the battery won't work in the current pip. and since there's no new pip yet, there's no new battery or price yet.
Toyota has not announced a 2016 Prius PHV. (if they had, it would be in a Gen 4 thread I suspect) Nor have they announced it will have longer range. All other Gen4 Prius have the HV battery under the rear seat, not under the hatch as in Gen 3s. This would make the shape and size different from the Gen 3s.
I saw an ad where Toyota mentioned the 2017 Prius Prime would have an EV only range of 22 miles. 2017 Toyota Prius Prime | Let's imagine the new possible.
... and it won't fit in the first gen PiP. Batteries aren't made in a standard form-factor, but instead customized to each vehicle to fit in the space that engineers were able to make available. If you aren't concerned with keeping the battery in the original space, I'm sure the world is your oyster when it comes to engineering your own battery pack.
